A Good Day For The Justice System: “Attempted Murder” Results in Misdemeanor
Monroe, MI – Today was a good day for The Justice System. The Law Office of John Freeman, PLLC is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of a client’s case today in Monroe County District Court. Originally charged by the Monroe County Michigan Sheriff’s Department with Attempted Murder for allegedly firing a gun at her physically abusive husband’s head, Mr. Freeman’s client was sentenced today following a no contest plea earlier this summer.
Instead of a felony conviction for Attempted Murder, which carries the possibility of a life sentence in prison, Mr. Freeman successfully negotiated a plea bargain with the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office that allowed his client to plead no contest to the misdemeanor of Intentional Discharge of a Firearm. This case highlights the importance of having an experienced criminal defense attorney when it comes to negotiating a resolution of a criminal case in The Justice System.
At sentencing today, Mr. Freeman’s client faced a maximum of one year in jail. The sentence – 6 months probation and a suspended jail sentence. Thus, when the client successfully completes probation, she will not serve a single day in jail.
